bowing to protesters, within the last hour, police release the video of the deadly encounter. firefighters dead in delaware after the floor of a burning home collapses.

and philadelphia, why the city is apologizing to hundreds of drivers after its brief streets event. good evening, i'm laura make, we begin with breaking news in charlotte, north carolina, police there have just released police body cam and dash cam video footage of tuesday's police shooting that killed a black man. here's a look at some of the video. but we're not showing you the actual shooting. this is a look from the police dash cam. you can see an officer standing by a pick-up truck and another officer rushes to join him. police have only released portions of the video. they said other parts were not relevant to the incident. about 30 seconds after the second officer arrives, scott can be seen getting out of his vehicle. we've edited this video for time. seconds later, one of the officers fires four shots. we we have frozen the video just before the shots were fired. but you will hear the gunshots.

[ gunshots ] >> it's not clear how many of those shots hit keith scott. the police chief says the video is insufficient to prove definitively that scott had a gun in his hand. but other evidence suggests he might have. police say lab tests show a gun at the crime scene contained scott's dna and his fingerprints and they say it was loaded. >> we're releasing evidence that we believe based on our fact-finding mission that it will give you indisputable evidence that the facts we started with, are the facts that remain today based on two independent investigations up into this point. >> witnesses have said scott didn't have a gun, but was instead holding a book. and was shot while waiting for his son to get off the bus. according to the chief, only one officer fired shots. no charges have been filed. now to delaware, two firefighters were killed in a

collapse inside a burning home in wilmington today. the parents and their four children who live inside all got out okay. but four firefighters were trapped. and lieutenant christopher leach and senior firefighter jerry fickes never made it out alive. flags are flying at half-staff around wilmington, to honor those fallen firefighters. we begin our team coverage with nbc 10's andrea cline thomas. >> there's been an outpouring of support. take a look, coming all the way from kent county, delaware, more than 40 miles away. just shows that there's a much larger brother and sisterhood amongst firefighters and they're all hurting right now. >> first floor, firefighters trapped. mayday, mayday. >> four wilmington firefighters trapped in the basement of this row home on lake view drive after the first floor collapses. >> first floor fire.

>> smoke detectors in the home started going off just before 3:00 a.m. as the family of six was fast asleep. >> we were like wake up, wake up, it's a fire. like it was really scary. >> firefighters entered the burning home trying to save the family members who they believed were trapped inside. by the time they learned the whole family had made it out safely, it was too late. >> have you made contact with those two firefighters? >> negative. >> 41-year-old lieutenant chris leach and 51-year-old jerry fickes died in the fire. >> four other firefighters were injured, two critically. >> i'm sorry for their losses. >> deep sorrow now hangs along with the flags that are now at half-staff at the firefighters' respective stations, station 4, a black cloth drapes the sign. >> all of our family is hurting. significantly. the entire city is hurting significantly. i know i am. >> two firefighters were treated and released from the hospital earlier today. two more remain in critical

condition in the burn unit at kroezer chester medical center. andrea cline thomas, nbc 10 news. already the wilmington community is trying to help families through this very difficult time with a prayer service this afternoon. nbc 10's drew smith continues our live team coverage. >> there was a lot of sadness here tonight. but also a big support system. this was the school where the lieutenant graduated from. his son attends here now. and during a ceremony here today, it was clear both firefighters died doing a job they loved. the flags slowly fell to half staff outside saleseanum high school? >> we gather to mourn the loss two of fallen heroes who gave their lives so that others may be saved. >> the school's president knew lieutenant christopher leach when we were students here in the early '90s, it was obvious

leach wanted to be a firefighter and that passion was still clear just last week during a classroom visit. >> he told the students about how much he loved his job. >> leach had three kids, the family here in the crowd devastated by the loss. and surrounded by other first responders. who are also mourning their fallen brother, senior firefighter jerry fickes. >> jerry and i started in the fire service many, many years ago. one of the toughest guys i know. >> right now they're hoping for a speedy recovery for the two firefighters burned in the fire and still at the hospital. it's a struggle trying to cope with the fact that two of their best are now gone. >> it should vee mind all of us how grateful we should be to all of our first responders who take up jobs where every day they don't know if they'll come home. >> these men were known for helping others, not just because of their job rushing into dangerous situations, but we're told collecting coats for needy kids during the winter was very important to them. live in wilmington, drew smith, nbc 10 news.

and we expect these temperatures mainly north and west of philadelphia to be dropping into the lower 50s, as we move through the overnight. we have plenty of cloud cover today. but the sun peeking through in the evening hours. want to show you where we came from. felt a lot like summertime for sure, friday, 89 degrees and remember the heat and humidity really we say good-bye to the humidity for now. and wow, temperatures have really dropped and this is where we're looking to settle over the next couple of days. temperatures in the lower 70s without those high dew points and the high humidity. what about the rain? when can we expect the next round, i'll be back with those details in a bit. people got to play in the street today, without worrying about traffic. it was all part of the philly free streets festival. the city shot down a 10-mile route so traffic was stopped and people could just walk and bike and play outside for hours. the free streets event came with

an unwelcome surprise, though, for at least 200 residents in south philadelphia and old city. they woke up to find their cars had been towed. the city's deputy communications director told nbc 10 a miscommunication led to the cars being ticketed and towed instead of relocated. he said all tickets will be canceled and anyone who paid a towing charge will have that money refunded. up next, a place where slaves were once auctioned off is now a brand-new african-american museum. what president obama said the museum means for the country and the protests seen around the nation. plus he's in town to try to beat the eagles tomorrow. but today, ben roethlisberger is bonding with the local police. we'll explain why, next. the eagles look to start the season 3-0 when they take on the pittsburgh steelers tomorrow in south philadelphia. and ahead of the game, steelers quarterback ben roethlisberger made a special visit to south jersey. visiting with canine teams in camden county where they'll compete in the united states police canine association national patrol dog trials starting tomorrow. the quarterback is a known supporter of law enforcement, especially canine units and service dogs. through the work of the ben roethlisberger foundation. and now a line look at the link, where the game is set for 4:25 tomorrow. nbc 10 is the only play for exclusive pre- and post-game coverage. it's followed by eagles game plan at 10:00, then it's eagles gameday final. we'll have a preview of the game coming up in sports.

a slave rang the historic freedom bell to officially open the new smithsonian national museum of african-american history and culture. president obama says the museum will help americans better understand each other. >> this is the place to understand how protests and love of country don't merely co-existent, but inform each other. how men can proudly win the gold for their country, but still insist on raising a black gloved fist. >> nearly 4,000 artifacts are on display, as of today, the museum is open to the public and it is free to visit. members of temple university's black student union protested during the national anthem at temple's football game today. >> they remained seated to protest recent police-involved shootings. the group posted this video of the protest on their twitter

looking for the clouds to clear allowing for the radiational cooling so temperatures up here to the north, and to the west, we're expecting the temperatures to fall. possibly into the upper 40s as we move on through the overnight. why are dry, cold front passing through, high pressure building in and that's what we'll have to thank for bright blue skies as we get up tomorrow morning. we're watching another cold front here that's gathering some activity in a western, i should say, midwestern part of the country. that is on the move. that would be slow to chug into our area monday night into tuesday morning. so we'll keep an eye on that hour to hour, show you that as the skies will be clearing for tomorrow, it will be quite comfortable for sure. take you all the way through closer to monday morning, we start to see the clouds building in from that system and by monday evening, we're going to be poised, for a good
